Manager, Social/Emotional Health and Resiliency, BC Ministry of Health
River is the Manager of Mental Health Promotion at the British Columbian Ministry of Health. Her portfolio includes policy oversight of upstream mental health promotion and prevention efforts focused on building individual and community strengths, capacities and resilience, while working towards reduced incidence, prevalence and severity of mental disorders. In this context, she has worked with partners across sectors and systems including health, education and community, in order to encourage collaborative action, and support the exchange and application of knowledge as it relates to policy and program development. This work takes advantage of key opportunities for intervention across the lifespan, and in important settings such as the home, workplace, schools and communities. River also brings extensive experience in substance use policy and programming to her work.
Outside her work with the Ministry, River is the Artistic Director and Manager of TheatreWorks Consulting. TheatreWorks offers workshops and creates audience-interactive theatre to facilitate exploration of difficult issues and engage people in creative dialogue in schools, communities and organizations.
